The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and The Weavers’ Roundtable are presenting their annual weaving workshop on Thursday, March 28, 2019 in the museum atrium.  Students will learn how to weave Atwater Bronson Lace and how to vary its lace block placement.
This knowledge will give the weaver true design advantage when working with this structure. Additionally, weavers will learn to create weaver manipulated laces such as Brooks Bouquet, Danish Medallion and variations of Leno Lace. Learn to add variety to your weaving and to create elegant finishing touches to your projects. The workshop will be conducted by Barbara Diefenderfer, a member of the Weaver’s Roundtable, and master weaver with over 30 years of teaching experience.
Participants will receive instructions for preparing their looms well before the workshop and are expected to come with looms ready to begin weaving. The looms (table or floor models) need only 4 shafts and should be threaded using 10/2 or 8/2 cotton threads in white or a light color. A few yards of a contrasting color will be used. Threads that match the warp will be used for weft. One shuttle will be needed. Pick up sticks should be brought if students own them. Some will be available to borrow.
There will be a lunch break with teas, instant coffee and a pot of hot water provided. Be sure to indicate whether you are bringing a table or floor loom so we can make sure to have sufficient table space for everyone. The workshop move in time begins at 10 a.m. and the class will begin as soon as everyone is ready. The class will end at 3:30 p.m.
The registration fee is $25 paid to the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and is due when you register. A materials and instruction fee of $10 for Weavers’ Roundtable members will be collected at the beginning of the workshop. This fee is $15 for those who are not Weavers’ Roundtable members.
The information included relates closely to requirements for guild advancement programs and will be very helpful to those who are preparing to enter such programs. For further information contact the instructor at diefenderfer2@myactv.net.
