Cumberland Valley Artists & Photographers

An annual tradition since 1933, the Cumberland Valley Artists (CVA) and Cumberland Valley Photographers (CVP) exhibitions showcase, celebrate, and support artists of the Cumberland Valley region. Each year, hundreds of works are submitted for consideration for inclusion by exhibition jurors.

This year’s jurors are Virginia M. G,. Anderson for CVA and Dan Leers for CVP.

Dr. Virginia M. G. Anderson is the Curator of American Art and Department Head of American Painting & Sculpture and Decorative Arts at The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA), and is an Adjunct Professor in the Program in Museums and Society at Johns Hopkins University. From 2005 to 2010, Virginia was the Michael and Diane Maher Assistant Curator of American Art at the Harvard Art Museums. She is a scholar of American painting from the 19th century to the present, and her research interests also include the intersection of collecting and identity. Her recent exhibitions at the BMA include Oletha DeVane: Traces of the Spirit (2019); By Their Creative Force: American Women Modernists (2019-20); Free Form: 20th-Century Studio Craft (2019-20); and Katharina Grosse: Is It You? (2020-21). She has a BA in Government from Harvard University, and received her PhD in Art History from Boston University.

Dan Leers is Curator of Photography at Carnegie Museum of Art (CMOA). He graduated with a BA in Art History from Lawrence University, Appleton, Wisconsin, and an MA in Modern Art/Curatorial Studies from Columbia University, New York. Previously, he was the Beaumont and Nancy Newhall Curatorial Fellow in the Department of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Leers came to CMOA in 2015, and since that time has organized numerous exhibitions and written many publications. Recent projects include William Henry Fox Talbot and the Promise of Photography (2017–2018); Forum 80: Deana Lawson (2018); An-My Lê: On Contested Terrain (2020); and Trevor Paglen: Opposing Geometries (2020–2021). Leers is currently working on two upcoming projects with Sara Greenberger Rafferty (October 2021) and the Gordon Parks Foundation (April 2022).
