Short Stories with Art
Students will view the Eudora Welty: Southern Narratives photographic exhibition at the museum. Eudora Welty (1909-2001) was an author and photographer. Welty captured the people and spirit of the American South, in both words and images. While employed as a publicity agent for the Works Progress Administration (WPA), Welty took photographs in her free time. Direct and often poignant, these photos—which often served as the inspiration for her short stories—illustrate the life of the rural poor in the South and the effects of the Great Depression.
Students will build a visual story with the use of recycled cd cases, paper, pen, and ink. Using a combination of shades/values, lights/dark, the work will give the illusion of perspective and light source.
$12 non-museum members/$10 museum members
